June 21, 2025 Statement Condemning open conflict with Iran

Disciples Peace Fellowship (DPF) condemns the United States’ entry into open conflict with Iran through its direct bombing of its military and nuclear sites. Even as God seeks to break the weapons of war (Psalm 76:3), the peace that God brings is one not accomplished through military domination or overwhelming force (John 14:27).

While we are in opposition to all warfare, we recognize that many Christians believe that some wars can be necessary and just. However, one essential criterion for a supposedly just war is that it is a last resort. The attack on Iran reflects military opportunism and impatience instead.

For 90 years, DPF has sought to help individuals and congregations live out the gospel imperative for peace and justice. We encourage all Disciples of Christ in the United States and Canada to call their elected leaders and urge them to demand an immediate ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations to avoid further cycles of destruction.
