Climate Justice Playlist

by 2022 DPF Peace Intern Erin Gresham

A Playlist is a way of engaging with an idea or topic. They can be used as small group discussion starters, for personal devotions, or as a place to jump into a subject.

On the subject of Climate Justice/Resource Usage Awareness, here is:

…Something to break the ice

M&M resource activity: Have youth stand in a line or i walk up to youth with M&M bag. One by one the youth will take a handful of M&M’s. As each youth takes from the bag, M&M’s will run out. Once all youth have gotten m&M’s some will have less than others. Then create scenarios where their m&m’s are taken away (natural disasters, economic collapse, health issues). Are the youth with more m&m’s willing to give some of their m&m’s to the youth that just experienced a disaster? (make it centered toward system control, not individual control)

…Something to Do

Pick 5 Things to change individually

Pick 1-2 Things to Change Communally (project done as a community/with each other)

Some suggestions from our friends at Green Chalice:

  • Reduce energy consumption (lighting, heat, hot water, insulate)

  • Consider clean energy sources like wind, solar (onsite or purchase)

  • Create a community garden or butterfly garden

  • Weave creation into worship, prayers, hymns, liturgy and sermons

  • Provide Eco-Tips in your church newsletter

…Something to Pray

We rejoice in all life.

We live in all things

All things live in us

We rejoice in all life.

We live by the sun

We move with the stars

We rejoice in all life.

We eat from the Earth

We drink from the rain

We breathe from the air

We rejoice in all life.

We share with the creatures

We have strength through their gifts

We rejoice in all life.

We depend on the forests

We have knowledge through their secrets

We rejoice in all life.

We have the privilege of seeing and understanding

We have the responsibility of caring

We have the joy of celebrating.

We are full of the grace of creation

We are graceful

We are grateful

We rejoice in all life.

Amen.
